Abstract

This article deals with the construction of the economic life of a group of people dedicated to dance in the city of Tijuana. In a context in which the professional field is in the process of consolidation facing precarization processes and scarce recognition of artistic work, the career and experience of five dance personalities are analyzed. It reflects on the nature of creative work and its relation to the notion of atypical work and job insecurity. Through the interpretation of the selected narratives, the strategies for an economic life are identified, highlighting the role of vocation and the commitment to artistic work in the construction of projects, as well as the multi-activity and territorial mobility as resources to face the difficulties of this professional field.
