Abstract

This article discusses about the interaction between the energy and food system and the recurrent crisis and problem of hunger and malnutrition in Latin America. First, secondary information is used in order to analyse the relationship between energy and food production and financialization trends in national economies. Then, the analysis is linked with the causes and consequences of the different crises affecting the global system since the 1970s. Finally, the article questions production and accumulation patterns that have been promoting greater social inequality, and therefore threatening food safety and food sovereignty in Latin America.
