Challenges for the implementation of the second period of the Kyoto Protoco

The present study aimed to confirm the continuity of the global warming as the biggest obstacle to the effectuation of the second period of the Kyoto Protocol, in vigor from 2013 to 2020, and handle which will be the possible consequences of a worsening of the environmental impacts already caused by the greenhouse effect, if this period is not successful. Thereunto, it was observed the history of the Protocol and the countries committed, as well as the goals of each Conference of the Parties, in addition, it was also analyzed the history of sustainable development, as well as some ways to mitigate climate changes, and the crisis which involved the carbon credit market in the recent years. It was sought to identify the negotiation points relating to the second period of the Protocol, such as the countries that renewed their subscription and had pledged to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases by 2020. As result, it was realized that no reduction of these gases may cause the failure of the planet, besides aggravating the environment impacts in an irreversibly way.
